KNOWING WHY and HOW–The keys to teaching your kids to LOVE GIVING!
Kids need to know the “WHY?” of giving–That’s what the book is all about.
Kids also need to the “HOW?” That’s why “TheKingsAdventure” is here!
Explore the map with your kids, let them watch the learn videos, and then explore the give icons, and let THEM choose the gift that moves their heart.
FIRST—During the weeks before Christmas, or even on Christmas day take some special time to read “The King’s Christmas List” as a family, and talk about “How would it feel to not get any presents on your birthday?” “What does the King want for His birthday? Why do you think that is?” (we do this after the initial fun and craziness of opening presents on Christmas day.)
SECOND—Decide on an amount you want to give each of your kids. We actually print up a “Gift Card” for $25, or $50 for each of our girls. This is KEY because it empowers your kids to know that this is their choice…and you will be amazed at how seriously they take this choice of presents for the King.
THIRD—Log on to “TheKingsAdventure.Com”, encourage one of your kids to click on the crown and “Start the Adventure!” Then help them explore the map icons. I definitely recommend that you at least watch the 1 minute video with Jennifer Connelly (NYC without water). Then watch as your child’s own compassion leads them to a specific gift. This has become some of my favorite memories of Christmas!

THE MIRACLE MAKER—our kids (4-9) LOVE this movie–Best animation I’ve ever seen. Ralph Fiennes does the voice for Jesus in this amazing animated story that my kids have loved every Christmas (and Easter : ) since they were really little. It’s simple, beautiful and profound. Click on the King’s Store to order a copy of the dvd with the book–the perfect Christmas gift!
THE “MORE, MORE, MORES”—This is based on the simple idea that naming something is the first step to identifying it. In our family we talk about germs and the disease they cause—along with the flu and the common cold we include “The More, More, Mores”. Sometimes it’s about a special treat like a chocolate chip cookie. Sometimes it’s about extra time to watch a Christmas special. Sometimes it’s about the gifts on Christmas morning—but it’s always the same symptom. Our kids want MORE! “Please, mommy, one more cookie? Please, daddy, 5 more minutes? Please Grandma, one more story???” It has helped us to tell our kids to watch out for the “MORE, MORE, MORE’s”. They say, “The what?” and then we say it’s like a sickness that can get into your heart, a disease where you’re never satisfied, you always want more. It’s pretty cool when a kid says, “Oh, yea, you know, I don’t really need any more…good night.” : )
